Nutritional Sculptures: Cast from medicinal plants, corals and iron oak galls as ‘Active Ingredients'

These cast iron cooking tools can be used to explore how materials traverse and become the body. They that can be activated, by being added to slow-cooked food as ‘ingredients’ to impart the food with essential nutritional metals for consumption. I am increasingly interested in the crossovers between food and medicine, and active ingredients.

I started making silicone and alginate moulds of medicinal plants, corals and iron oak galls as active objects, in wax to be cast into iron, zinc, copper and magnesium. I spent a week with Necole and Steve at Coles Castings Annual Iron Pour and sand-casting course in Dorset.
